Time to Start Drawing

The real work begins

Now that we've identified the key details of the home you want, it's time to start drawing the floor plan. Drawing the initial floor plan will only take a couple of days to get the first draft. Once I get the first draft, I'll email it to you for you to review and make suggestions, comments and changes.

During this process, "more is more". I'll need as much detail as possible about what you like/don't like about the floor plan and the changes you want me to make. Typically, we'll go back and forth several times reviewing changes and tweaking the floor plan.

Once everyone's happy with the floor plan, it's time to begin creating the exterior elevations of the home. This is where it really gets fun. Your home will begin to take shape. With the design software that I use, you'll be able to see a 3D model of every piece of your house, giving you a true representation of what the actual home will look like...inside and out.

Next, we'll create the electrical plan for your home. Many designers blow through this part, but it's important to think about the placement of light switches, electrical outlets, TV/cable and phone jacks. Although you can't think through every possible situation, you can limit the chances that you'll move into the house and say, "I really wish we would have put a switch here...or an outlet here..."

Depending on the size and character of the house, this entire process should take between 2 and 6 weeks from start to finish. Once you're happy with everything we've designed, I'll create the final construction documents/plans that you'll give to your builder.
